Google Wave 365

The Google Wave 365 website was created to fulfill a simple purpose: to be a major and informative source of the Google Wave environment, its applications, extensions and developments.

What is Google Wave?

Google Wave is commonly described as a communication and collaboration tool. The central goal of Google Wave is to merge the functionality of email, instant messengers, online documents, wikis, and social media in a single platform. It also introduces multi-user real time collaboration across multiple environments and installations through its API and Federation protocols.

When Lars Rasmussen unveiled Google Wave during the 2009 Google I/O Conference he described the concept behind the creation of Google Wave as follows:

Email today is by far the most popular way for us to communicate on the Internet, which is remarkable, because email was invented more than 40 years ago, before the Internet, before the web and it was done without the experience of things like SMS and instant messengers and blogs and wikis and bulletin boards and discussions groups and social networks...

... all of these different kinds of communication that we take for granted today...

...when we started this project, and it's been more than two years, we asked our self the question: What might email look like if it was invented today? And needless to say there are about a million different ways you can answer that question.. Google Wave is our attempt.

- Lars Rasmussen

Google Wave is an HTML 5.0 application that was built using the Google Web Tool Kit. It is compatible with various browsers including Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer (requires Chrome Frames plugin).

The term "Wave" refers to a conversation which is represented in the form of a message document similar to an email or forum post. The message is stored in a server where it can be shared with other members and collaborated upon, simultaneously in real time. Google Wave allows its users to embed rich multimedia content such as YouTube videos, Google Maps and images just to name a few.

Google Wave Guides

Google WaveIf you're new to Google Wave and are looking for some guidance I recommend the following resources:

Google Wave Extension

Since the Google Wave platform is open source it has allowed for the creation of a myriad number of Google Wave Extensions. These extensions includes Robots, Gadgets, and Games. The following is a collection of Google Wave Extension lists. You can also find a list of extensions at the Featured Google Wave Extension page.

Google Wave Robots

Google Wave robots are extensions that automate tasks such as adding gadgets and apps into a wave or translate messages. Robots are used by adding them to your contact list. To call a robot simply add it as a collaborator to an existing wave.

Artificial Intelligence Wave Bots (Chatbots)

Social Networking Robots
